Karron's Weight Loss Journey
This site is NOT advocating weight loss surgery. These pictures were taken years after my JIB in 1975. I initially lost 90 pounds (from 225-135 lbs). But over the next few years, all the weight came back. I began the diet yo-yo again. Gain-lose, re-gain-lose. This went on for years. Until in 1998 I was determined to lose the weight and not only keep it off, but discover the root cause of my obesity.

In August of 1998 my journey began. I started by seeking freedom from co-dependency. It was an unusual place to start, but I was sure my weight was closely linked to my relationships with others, especially men.

Next, I joined two 12-step groups for compulsive overeaters and food addicts, and began working the steps. This helped me work through many issues I had regarding my weight and self-worth.

Thanks, to OA and FAA, by 2001 I self-diagnosed my condition as "non-purging bulimia." And immediately sought medical confirmation and treatment. By early, 2002, I was taking prozac for my compulsive eating and maintaining a weight of 145 and a size 12.

Weight loss surgery did not give me the happy, thin, life I sought, quite the contrary. The weight loss surgery I had in 1975 left me with chronic auto-immune disease and pain.  Through my own efforts, and medical intervention for compulsive eating, I am finally living the life I always wanted.
1991. I weighed 210 and was a size 22. That was my heaviest post-surgery weight. I had re-gained almost all of my pre-surgery weight. I was sick and miserable.
My son and me at my college graduation in 1990. I weighed 200 lbs. and was a size 22.
At a picnic in the Spring of 1999.  I weighed 155, a size 12-14. Between August of 1998 and May of 1999 I lost 43 pounds.
My grand-daughter, Taralyn, and I in front of my house in 1996. I weighed 185. I was a size 20. She is 6 now and just gorgeous.
The Bahamas in Oct. 2001. I weighed 130 and was a size 10. This was my best weight in my entire life (except the year following my WLS). From 1998 to 2001 I lost 68 pounds. I did it the old fashioned way: Diet and exercise.
My great-nephew and I at Daytona Beach in May 2000. I weighed 139 and was a size 12.
